Curlies

An online store and social network application for people with curly hair.

August 2020 - September 2020

Project brief

Curlies is a website or application which is an online store and social network for people with curly hair. The services of this website are divided into three main sections: the store, social network, and introducing services for curly hair.

Problem

Unfortunately, in Iran, there is no suitable platform to buy products for curly hair. A specialized online website can bring these people together and make brands pay attention to these users. On many other social media such as Instagram or YouTube, there are many tips related to curly hair care. But by dedicating a section on this website, these tips and tutorials can be given to others much more coherently. Hairdressers can also apply to be featured on our website, and they can be one of our business plans.

Goals

Providing easy access to buy products

Deploying reputable brand to provide reliable services

Find products specifically for the user hair type

Introducing users to salons that provide services specifically for curly hair

Reaserch

The main research method for this project is surveys and user interviews followed by creating an affinity diagram. Besides these, some primary information were gathered to identify people with curly hair problems for better empathizing.

User Interviews

I conducted user interviews with two curly-haired females and my main question was what their primary need was for their hair and whether that need has ever been met or not. Also, what can be done to better address that need.

Surveys

I sent out a survey to collect people with curly hair preferences. I received 15 responses from people in 6 different cities but they are mostly located in Tehran, Iran. Participants were aged from 30 years old to 40 years old. This helped us target some problems to narrow down our topic. For example, our target audience has mostly loose curl patterns and spends about 1 hour per week on their hair.

Affinity Diagram

I summarized the results of interviews and surveys and placed the most repeated answers into six categories. Based on this categorization I realized that finding the best quality products and feeling confident with their natural hair are the most important subjects to be addressed.
